Anne: HR Administrator – Head Office

I was offered the role of HR Administrator. The hours are perfect, giving me time with my husband

Having joined Berendsen in 1988 as a packer, I progressed through several positions to become the Office Manager for one of our sites on the South Coast in 1992.

I wanted to gain experience with customers and so moved to a field role as a Service Representative, visiting customers and helping them to get the best out of Berendsen's service. Sadly, in 1995 my husband suffered a stroke, but I was delighted that the company supported me with flexible working arrangements so that I was able to continue working while still supporting him at home.

By 1999 I had been promoted to Service Manager of a different Berendsen site and received a great deal of support in the transfer, providing the flexibility to meet my domestic needs, both from local colleagues and from senior management. After over ten years in this position, as my husband had by now been forced to take early retirement, I subsequently made the difficult decision to "semi retire" and to work closer to home.

Almost immediately, I was offered the role of HR Administrator. The hours are perfect, giving me the time I need to be with my husband and to take him for his various medical appointments, while I continue to work and to use my knowledge of the business. I have performed the role since February 2012, my understanding of the sites and how the systems work is proving helpful to the HR team and I am delighted to be able to stay with the company that has given me so much help and support over many years.
